Officers of Main Organized Crime Department give testimony at trial of Taleh Bagirov and others

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. The Baku Court on Graves on Wednesday resumed the hearing on the case of Taleh Baghirov, Fuad Gahramanli, and others.

During the hearing presided over by judge Alovsat Abbasov, officer of Main Organized Crime Department Ä°slam Aghabeyov gave testimony. Accused persons Agil Ismayilov, Jabbar Jabbarov, Zakir Musayev claimed they were tortured by Islam Aghabeyov. However, Aghabeyov refuted these claims.

Later on, Elchin Taghiyev, chief operating officer of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, testified as a witness and a victim, saying he held the operational meeting on the basis of information they had received as to Taleh Baghirov gathering people around him in Nardaran, creating an armed group, and a coup attempt.

“I was a member of the operational group. When we arrived at the house, at the time of the incident, we heard an explosion. Two of our officers died. When I jumped off the fence into the yard, I saw two persons wielding grenades jump off the opposite fence and run away. During the operation, I detained Abbas Huseynov. After the operation, we together with witnesses inspected the arms,” he said.

Prosecutors asked what he saw upon entering the yard and whether they ascertained the number of the people there and whether they resisted against police.

Taghiyev answered saying he did not know the number of the people there but he saw the ones showing resistance against police and that he saw gunfire being opened.

The prosecutor asked him whether or not he was warned while entering the courtyard. E. Tagiyev answered head of group Karim Alimardanov warned loudly, but the opposite side did not obey this warning.

Thereafter, answering to the lawyers’ questions, Tagiyev noted that Abbas Huseynov had a gun when he arrested him: “”He had an automatic rifle. I attempted to take the rifle from him, but he resisted. At that time, he was injured after being hit by the rifle. I have not been injured during the operation, but it might happen. After a while, the witnesses came and a protocol was drawn up under the instruction of Karim Alimardanov. Abbas signed that protocol. We brought the arrested persons to the department. None of them were tortured.

Accused Abbas Huseynov said he was not arrested by Tagiyev.

Thereafter, the witness answered to the questions of accused persons.

The process will be resumed on August 25.

Taleh Bagirov is charged under paragraphs 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.7, 120.2.12 of article 120 (premeditated murder), 29,120.2.1, 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.12 29,120 of article 29,120(attempt to murder), under articles 228.3 (illegal purchase of firearms) and 228.4 (illegal possession of firearms). Taleh Bagirov was detained by law enforcement officials during a special operation in Nardaran settlement of Baku on 26 November. During the operation 60 people were detained. The criminal case of some of them were sent to the Sabunchu District Court.

Deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP">APFP) Fuad Gahramanli was arrested on December 8,2015.

He was brought to justice as a suspect under the Article 281.1 (public calls against the state) and 283.2 (incitement of national, racial, social or religious enmity and hatred by using violence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
