According to the statement, in order to neutralize the armed criminal group planning to destabilize the situation in Azerbaijan, commit provocations, mass clashes, and terror attacks, to forcibly change the constitutional order of the country and create a religious country governed by Sharia law, the interior ministry held a special operation in the Nardaran township of Baku on Nov.26.

Four members of the criminal group were killed, while several people got injured. Two police sergeants – Vugar Nasibov and Ismayil Taghiyev heroically died.

Four automatic rifles, four pistols, 12 hand grenades, 3 explosives, one of which is remote-controlled, ten Molotov cocktails, seven knives and daggers, three brass knuckles, etc were seized from them. After the completion of the special operation, some destructive forces in Nardaran held an unauthorized meeting, urged residents to oppose the constitutional order, use force against members of the government and show mass disobedience. They blocked roads, erected barricades and collected weapons. However, these illegal acts were prevented as a result of the actions conducted by law-enforcement authorities, said the statement.

Based on the accurate information of the law enforcement authorities, the persons illegally storing firearms, explosives and devices were identified. They were required to hand over these items voluntarily, however, the appeal of a group of representatives of Nardaran to those persons did not produce positive results.
