Initially, Khadija Ismayilova had been sentenced to seven years and five months in prison. After appealing to the Supreme Court with a cassation complaint, she was released on a suspended sentence to three years and six months in prison. Ismayilova was then acquitted of charges under articles 179 and 308 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
