Initiation of criminal case against son of former Azerbaijani defense ministry spokesman officially confirmed <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Speaking to reporters on Jan.15, Aliyev said the department received several appeals regarding R.Safarov.

Based on the appeals, a criminal case was launched against Rufat Safarov over corruption charges, investigation is underway.

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. The Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General has launched a criminal case against Rufat Safarov, a recently dismissed investigator of the Zardab district prosecutor’s office, over corruption charges.

Rufat Safarov is the son of Eldar Sabiroglu, the former spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Rufat Safarov was sacked for violation of the requirements of Azerbaijan’s Law “On prosecutor’s office” and Code of ethics for prosecuting officers.

The Zardab district prosecutor’s office is being comprehensively examined in connection with low labor and executive discipline, as well as low responsiveness towards employees of the district prosecutor’s office.

As a result of the investigations and under the relevant order signed by Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, Zardab district prosecutor Suleyman Suleymanov was relieved of his duties due to offences in organizing the district prosecutor’s office.
