Azerbaijan publicizes number of casualties from traffic accidents of 2015

He said measures taken last year to prevent administrative offences violating traffic rules, increase in citizens’ compliance with the law after enlightenment as well as the improvement of actions of administrative responsibilities have produced good results, with a significant drop in the number of traffic accidents as well as in that of people killed and injured in those accidents. 2,220 traffic accidents were recorded in Azerbaijan in 2015. As a result 894 people were killed and 2,265 injured. Compared to 2014, the number of traffic accidents has decreased by 15.7%, and the numbers of deaths and injuries by 20.5% and 15.4% respectively. 

 

It was said that 94.5% (2,098) of the traffic accidents throughout the country took place as a result of drivers violating traffic rules, 36.9% (821) a result of overtaking and getting in the way of another vehicle, 27.4% (609) a result of excess in speed limits, 9.5% (212) as a result of violation of crossroads, and 2.4% (53) as a result of driving intoxicated. 41.6% (923) of the accidents were pedestrian-vehicle collisions. As a result, 333 people were killed and 673 injured. 65 of the traffic accidents were caused by passengers violating traffic rules.
