Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. Azerbaijani citizen Javadaga Sultanov, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates, has been released due to health problems, spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA.
According to him, Javadaga Sultanov’s wife has repeatedly appealed to the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Abu Dhabi saying that her husband’s state deteriorated: “She has submitted the documents to the embassy confirming that Javadaga Sultanov suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. In this regard, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Abu Dhabi has provided necessary consular and legal support to the detained person and asked the Justice Department of the United Arab Emirates to release Javadaga Sultanov under written undertaking not to leave the place.”
Abdullayev noted that investigation is underway and said Sultanov has been released under written undertaking not to leave UAE.
Javadaga Sultanov, the former deputy chief of Baku Main Police Office, was detained by Sharjah police. He has faced charges over swindling and tax evasion. As a result of the investigation regarding the criminal case of Haji Mammadov, who was accused of a number of crimes, Police Colonel Javadaga Sultanov was dismissed under the order issued by the Interior Ministry on 23 March, 2005. He was interrogated as a witness in Haji Mammadov’s case and his testimony caused scandal.
Javadaga Sultanov also worked as chief of Binagadi District Police Office.
