"The unrest was sparked by an incident", the police said, explaining that a dispute over a drunk driving accident is seen as the most likely reason. Emil Shakhmardanov, the owner of a local hotel, crashed into an electricity pole, apparently while drunk. “Local residents shouted at the man, he snapped back and so the conflict gained momentum. An angry crowd gathered and set fire to his hotel and car”, - Gojayev said.

The police chief said that as a result of conversations with people they calmed down and went home, "It was a protest against a particular incident."

According to Nizami Gojayev, two people - a protestor and a police officer were injured: "The police shot in the head by a stone thrown by protesters."

The police chief also said that E.Shahmardanov and another man who was with him during the incident were detained.

N. Gojayev said that the mentioning Minister of Labour and Social Protection Fizuli Alakbarov's son is inappropriate, "Fizuli Alakbarov’s son was not in Ismayilli during the incident, in generally, today he has not been in Ismayilli. Mentioning his name in this accident is not correct."

The police chief said that an investigation is underway.
