APA reports that the conference is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman) and the International Human Rights Day - December 10. Head of the Human Rights Protection Unit at the Presidential Administration’s Department for Work with Law Enforcement Agencies Chingiz Asgarov, Ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova, representatives of various ministries are attending the event.
Chingiz Asgarov said important activities are carried out for raising the living standards of the people, protection of their rights in the developing Azerbaijan. According to him, ample activities were carried out on raising awareness along with the development of the legislation.
Ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova said that there was a real situation for the protection of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan. She said Office of the Human Rights Commissioner had an important role in this sphere. 9 amnesty acts have been adopted and 53 pardon decrees signed within 10 years. As a result of it, 378 prisoners have been released.
