Rashad Suleymanov – APA. “Some media outlets citing to the report of the U.S. Department of State distorted the information about large-scale drug smuggling through Azerbaijan,” said Chief of Investigation Department of the State Border Service (SBS), Colonel Azer Ibrahimov, APA reports. He said smuggling of 11 metric tons (MT) of heroin through Azerbaijan has been mentioned as a possibility: “132 km of Azerbaijani-Iranian border is under Armenia’s control. This uncontrolled territory is used not only for drug trafficking, but also for arms smuggling. As we know, funds from the smuggling of drugs and arms through that uncontrolled area are used to finance terrorism. We do not exclude the possibility of smuggling of nuclear and radioactive components there in the future.”
