APA’s correspondents report from the site that the police have taken the control at Nizami Street, Fountains Square, Aziz Aliyev street and Neftchilar avenue.
Police patrol officers and riot police have been deployed at the site.
Deputy chief Baku City Main Police Office Sahlab Bagirov was also at the site. APA’s correspondents saw YAP executive secretary Ali Ahmedov and deputy secretary Mubariz Gurbanli walking at the site.
A group of protesters attempted to enter Fountains Square several times chanting slogan “End to soldiers’ deaths”. The police mentioned that the protest was not authorized by Baku City Mayor’s Office and will be prevented and ordered the protesters to go away.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reporter Khadija Ismayil chanted slogan “Police, don't oppress the people” several times and was detained. She didn’t wear Press vest.
Water-cannon and tear gas have been used against the protesters.
Though the number of protesters was reportedly more than 50, the police didn’t issue an official statement on this.
The message on holding a protest against soldiers’ deaths was posted on “Facebook”. The protest has not been authorized by Baku Mayor’s Office.
