Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Operation unit of the Department to Combat Corruption under Prosecutor General’s Office investigated 369 appeals last year, APA reports. Chief of the Department to Combat Corruption Kamran Aliyev said at the press conference that 29 criminal cases were launched on persons caught red-handed, including 4 criminal cases on the materials gathered over corruption. Initial investigation into 23 of the abovementioned criminal cases was completed and sent to the relevant courts.
170 corruption-related criminal cases on 298 persons were sent to courts by the investigation unit of the department in 2012. 52 persons faced charges over 32 corruption facts, 51 over 33 facts of abuse of power, 75 over 44 facts of swindling.
Out of AZN 52 128 000 damage, AZN 25 000 972, or 49.82% was paid in the stage of initial investigation, measures were taken to ensure payment of the rest of the damage by arresting the property of the accused persons.
It was also announced how many employees of prosecuting authorities were involved in corruption in the country. 2 criminal cases were launched on 3 employees of the prosecuting authorities and sent to the relevant courts in 2012.
The Department’s Interior Security Service carried out investigation into the facts of corruption by the employees prosecuting authorities, 4 employees faced disciplinary liability, one of them was relieved of his post, one dismissed from the prosecuting authorities.
