Azerbaijan extradites Kazakh citizen wanted by UAE

A citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhanbolat Serikov, born in 1985, who had been declared internationally wanted by the competent authorities of the United Arab Emirates on charges of kidnapping, unlawful deprivation of liberty, threats to kill, intentional infliction of serious bodily harm, and acts of sexual violence, was located in Azerbaijan in January of this year and following a request by the Prosecutor General’s Office, a pre-trial detention measure was applied against him, the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA.

According to the information, the extradition request submitted by the competent authorities of the United Arab Emirates was supported by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan at all levels of the judiciary, including the first instance, appellate, and cassation courts.

Based on the extradition agreement in force between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates, and in accordance with the decision of the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, Zhanbolat Serikov was handed over to the law enforcement authorities of the mentioned country under the escort of a special convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.
