Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. Azerbaijani poets Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizadeh, who were pardoned by Iran, held a press conference. APA reports that Farid Huseyn said that they left for above mentioned country in order to participate in poetry festival on the invitation of Iranian poet Bahram Surgun. The poetry festival lasted for 2 days. We met with Mammadhuseyn Shahriyar’s son in Tabriz and visited the cemetery and different museums within a day.

We were detained by the employees of the Iranian special service bodies when we got on a bus at a terminal station in Tabriz and wanted to return Baku at 22:20 on May 2. We were kept in one-dimension cells for 25 days, generally 86 days in the building of Iran’s Ministry of Information and Security, and 40 days in detention. They weren’t undergoing physical pressure but they were psychologically harmed.

According to Farid Huseyn, Iran’s special service bodies told them that they didn’t have the admission cards in order to participate in the poetry festival within their visit to Iran.

Hajizadeh said that judicial meetings were held on their case. One of these processes was held behind the close doors. The second process was held on August 7. They received the decision of court on August 7. Bahram Surgun, who invited the young poets to Iran, was sentenced to 3 years home imprisonment.

The young poets noted they were charged in for not having a permission document and for provocation against Iran: “Information on our activity in favor of Israel or engaging in drug smuggling is nonsense. After the arrest in Iran, we didn’t assume that why this issue had been politicized in such a way”.

The young poets thanked President Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani government and corresponding organizations for their release. They said that Deputy Consul General of Azerbaijan to Tabriz met with them after transferring a prison and said that the government kept this issue under control.
