MES Deputy Minister: â€œThe victims of Sumgayit explosion are weldersâ€

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. The Ministry of Emergency Situations received information about the fire in â€œHousehold goodsâ€ OJSC in Sumgayit city on September 17 at 16.50. The personal and techniques of the Ministry were immediately sent to the site. After the arrival of personnel, it was known that the fire took place in a reserve tankâ€, said Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Etibar Mirzayev.

According to the deputy minister, the 3rd call was announced due to scale of the fire: â€œ
More than 150 personnel, 45 techniques and 2 helicopters were involved in extinguishing the fire. The fire continued for 100 hours. The forces of the MES arrived in the site at 18.00. The fire was completely extinguished at 04.00. Refrigeration works were finished between 09.00 and 10.00.â€

Mirzayev said that 3 people died and 2 people were hospitalized with diagnose of poisoning: â€œThe welders died at the spot. 2 bodies were pulled out during the fire. One man remained there and was considered as missing. His body has been also pulled out today. Firefighters and ministryâ€™s personnel were not injured.â€

The Deputy Minister said that according to preliminary information, the fire took place during the welding process: â€œAt present, the Republic Prosecutorâ€™s Office and MES personnel are investigating the fact. The public will soon be informed about the resultsâ€.

Mirzayev also said that 6 tanks from 8 have also burnt. Approximately 2500 sq. m area has burnt as a result of the fires.
