Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Azerbaijani mujahid Khagani Imamverdiyev, who was reportedly killed by US Armed Forces in Pakistan, left the country at the age of 21, his father Sahib Imamverdiyev told APA.

He noted that his son was a student of the Azerbaijani State Oil Academy: “When he was in the 4th year i.e. on March 5, 2011, he together with 5 other students of the academy left for Pakistan in order to get religious education. He was regularly phoning home from Pakistan and talking with his family. He was saying that he was getting religious education there. For the last time he phoned home on December 21 and said that everything was ok. As soon as my son left Azerbaijan, I informed the police and National Security Ministry. He was declared wanted because he hadn’t graduated from the university and draft evasion. I regularly communicated with the law-enforcement agencies and was interested in his destiny”.

Imamverdiyev said that he didn’t believe in his son’s death: “Somebody phoned from the secret number to my son’s mobile phone on January 21. They said that they were phoning from Pakistan. Your son Khagani was killed on December 29. His death is mysterious for us, because we don’t even know who was phoning. Today I will address Pakistan’s embassy in Azerbaijan and ask them to clarify Khagani’s destiny”.

It is reported that 23-year-old Khagani Sahib Imamverdiyev was killed during the US forces’ attack.

In 2010, the local newspapers reported that a group of students of Azerbaijani State Oil Academy left the country and joined the radical religious groups abroad.
