Thickness of snow cover reaches 60-80 cm in Azerbaijan’s Lerik and Yardimli regions

Yardimli. Lerik. Aghaddin Babayev – APA. Heavy snowfall created a number of problems in Yardimli and Lerik regions of Azerbaijan. Thickness of snow fall reached 50-60 cm in the central part of Yardimli region, 70-80 cm in remote areas, chairman of the local emergency commission Azer Khaniyev told APA. Snowfall damaged high-voltage power lines in Masalli region and it created serious problems with power supply to Yardimli. Khaniyev said the emergency commission was taking urgent measures to solve the problems and restore traffic between the center and remote areas.

Heavy snowfall created serious consequences in the neighbor Lerik region as well. Chairman of the local emergency commission Habil Malikov told APA that thickness of snow cover reached 80 cm and in mountainous areas – 90 cm. The snow damaged 35-kV power lines in Lankaran and Masalli, leaving the town of Lerik and 162 settlements in the region without electricity. Power supply of more than 50 villages was restored last evening, but about 100 settlements are still in darkness.

Heavy snowfall paralyzed traffic between the settlements of Lerik region. It created serious problems on Lankaran-Lerik highway. Workers of the road exploitation department of Lerik region are cleaning the roads using heavy equipment. Weather is stable in both regions now.
