Ombudsperson meets UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan

Baku â€“ APA. Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsperson) of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova met with UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Bateman. They discussed the prospects of cooperation between the Ombudspersonâ€™s office and the embassy, APA reports. Elmira Suleymanova informed the guest about the activity of her office and said they attached importance to the cooperation with the government organizations, NGOs, civil society, international organizations and embassies in Azerbaijan. The ambassador was also informed in details about the regional bureaus of the Ombudspersonâ€™s office. Suleymanova said that recently the Ombudsperson addressed the President with a request for issuing next pardon decree. 339 convicted, including ill persons, women, old, under age, as well as journalists have been pardoned and released from the prison so far.
She also answered the ambassadorâ€™s questions about the protection of the rights of convicted, refugees, internally displaced persons. Peter Bateman said he supported the Ombudspersonâ€™s useful proposals and would assist her in this work.
