Human Rights Commissioner monitors temporary detention facilities

Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijanâ€™s Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova, members of the National Preventive Mechanism Group and representatives of the Guba regional center monitored the temporary detention facilities in Guba, Shabran and Siyazan region police offices. They held one-on-one meetings with the detainees, explained their rights, checked the documents proving the legality of their detention. They also gave information about the National Preventive Mechanism Group, checked the conformity of the detention conditions to the relevant norms, treatment, medical aid, lighting and ventilation of the cells, existence of prayer room, observation of hygiene rules.
The detainees did not complain of the detention conditions, treatment of the facility administration and employees.
It was found out that there were no tables or chairs in the cells of the detention facility of Shabran police office. There were some shortcomings in the documents of the detention facilities of Shabran and Siyazan police offices. Instructions were given to the administrations for eliminating these shortcomings. Human Rights Commissioner gave instructions to improve the detention conditions.
