Members of organized criminal group accused of attacking military unit, committing murder and other crimes stand trial in Azerbaijan

APA reports that Zeynal Agayev presided over the hearing. Public prosecutor Valeh Samadov declared the indictment. Following this, defendant Elnur Gaziyev gave testimony, he partially admitted his guilt.

The hearing will be continued on November 11.

The defendants are Asgar Mammadov, Vugar Rahimov, Yaver Mammadov, Saleh Adilov, Tural Hasanov and Elnur Gaziyev.

According to the indictment, on December 26, 2008, Terter Military Prosecutorâ€™s Office launched criminal case over the premeditated murder of Khashayev Uzeyir Elshad, the soldier of the military unit in Terter region, wounding of corporal Sheyubov Islam Sheyub and seizure of firearms of the military unit. The criminal case was launched on articles 120.2.11 (premeditated murder) and 232.3.2 (seizure of firearms by using force) of the Criminal Code and submitted to the Republic Military Prosecutorâ€™s Office. Since the offenders were not determined, the investigation of the criminal case was suspended on January 6, 2010.

The operation carried out by the National Security Ministry founded out that the crime was committed by â€œSahil camaatiâ€ armed group set up under â€œSumgayit camaatiâ€ armed group. The members of â€œSahil camaatiâ€ armed group â€“ Mammadov Ramin, Mammadov Asgar, Rahimov Vugar, Mammadov Yaver, Jamalov Elchin, Adilov Saleh, as well as Druskar Elshan, Hasanov Tural and Gaziyev Elnur, who were sentenced over the case of â€œSumgayit camaatiâ€ armed group on June 17, 2010, illegally wore the clothes of officers and soldiers, armed with pistols and cold steel, moved towards the trench, where there were soldiers. Approximately five meters far from the trench Elshan Druskar and Tural Hasanov made an ambush, Asgar Mammadov, Ramin Mammadov, Elnur Gaziyev and Saleh Adilov entered the military post. When they reached the post the soldier standing there asked them password. Asgar Mammadov, who earlier served in that military unit, said the password and approached the soldiers under the pretext of checking.

The members of the armed group killed one of the soldiers with a pistol with silencer, wounded the other. They seized 1 SVD sniperâ€™s rifle, 3 feed hoppers with 30 cartridges, 2 AKMS gun and 60 cartridges. On July 19, 2009, member of the armed group Ramin Mammadov was killed while he was attempting to cross the Iranian border. He resisted the border guards and when they tried to disarm him, the grenade in his hand exploded killing him.

As a result of the operations carried out by the Ministry of National Security, Asgar Mammadov, Vugar Rahimov, Yaver Mammadov, Saleh Adilov, Tural Hasanov and Elnur Gaziyev were detained.
