Rescuers of Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations return home after participating in rescue operations in quake-hit Van – PHOTOSESSION
Commander of the Civil Defense Troops of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Major-General Ilham Abdullayev told journalists that under the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, 145 rescuers left for Van at night on October 23. Abdullayev said the first aid included 250 tents and other necessary equipment, extra 2 rescue teams were sent to Turkey afterwards.
Commander of the Civil Defense Troops said in total the Ministry of Emergency Situations had sent to Turkey 1250 tents, 6050 blankets, 40 generators, 40 kitchen sets, more than 850 bed linens. Abdullayev said the total amount of the aid sent to Turkey was approximately $1.8 million, with the exception of travel expenses.
The representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said the Azerbaijani rescuers rescued 12 people, pulled 60 bodies from the rubbles.
Ilham Abdullayev said the rescue operations had been completed, therefore the Azerbaijani rescuers had returned. Abdullayev said the rescue work of the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations could be considered successful.
“We have done our best,†he said.
213 rescuers of Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations participated in the operations in Van.
It was noted that the dogs of the Ministry’s canine service had also participated in the rescue operations.
