Azerbaijani scientist Rashid Aliyev: I am the citizen of the independent Azerbaijan, Iran’s tricks are useless in this country
Rashid Aliyev underlined that Iranian ambassador’s recent statement aimed to make him keep silence.
“I had my say even in prison in Iran. I did my best to prove my innocence, demanded a lawyer for protection of my rights. In hard times I addressed to the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran. Why didn’t Iranian government make me keep silence? I was innocent. I demanded fair trial and protection of my rights. If I am proved to be guilty, I am ready to be executed. They did not have a ground to detain me. They do not have a moral right to object to it. The Iranian government held me hostage for two years. I expressed my objection to Mohammad Baghir Bahrami aboard the plane. I said as result of the useless activity of the company they had illegally detained me for two years,†he said.
Rashid Aliyev stated that human rights were violated in Iran.
“The entire world knows that human rights are violated in Iran. My groundless detention there under the psychological pressure proves this once more. This is Azerbaijan, I am the citizen of the independent Azerbaijan. Unlike Iran human rights are respected here. I failed to defend my rights in Iran. I believe that I will do it here. If I fail to do this, prove my innocence, everybody will think that Rashid Aliyev is indeed a spy. I expressed my gratitude to Iranian ambassador for my release. But I will always protest against my illegal arrest. This is my moral right,†he said.
The Azerbaijani scientist called the Iranian ambassador’s thoughts about possibility of his arrest again as nonsense. “Mohammad Baghir Bahrami’s thoughts intend to make me silent. It is ridiculous. This is not Iran, but independent Azerbaijan. I am citizen of independent Azerbaijan. Iran’s tricks are useless in this country. The Iranian ambassador doesn’t know what he says. What does it mean? Iran can not detain me in the presence of Azerbaijani people and state. My people and my state defended me and I believe they will defend me furtherâ€.
Rashid Aliyev also reacted to the Iranian ambassador’s statement about his links with forces trying to damage relations between the two countries: “I didn’t have any serious problem with the government of Ian. I was always supporting the development of Iranian-Azerbaijani relations. They have to understand that they kept me under detention while I was innocent. I suffered materially and morallyâ€.
R. Aliyev addressed the Iranian ambassador and those Iranian officials, who are accusing him. “Iranian government arrested me while I was innocent. I invite the Iranian ambassadors and other officials to debates. Let them to come and to discuss this issue. If they have evidences let them to show it. I know they can not do that because they have no evidences. If they have it I am ready to take responsibility. Then it will be clear that I am a losing side. I have always done good job for Iranâ€.
Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Baghir Bahrami said that Rashid Aliyev was distorting the realities. He said the scientist was accused in espionage and sentenced according to the Iranian laws. “Anyway, I hope he will get rid of the influence of the enemies of the two countries. Otherwise, together with the related bodies of Azerbaijan we will take necessary measures,†the Iranian ambassador said.
