Kyrgyz Ombudsman speaks about groundless accusations against Azerbaijani businessman

Ombudsman said that several necessary steps had been taken in direction of maintaining and defense of human rights in Kyrgyzstan. He spoke about created situation in the country after last unrests and said that reason of confrontation completed with change of government in Kyrgyzstan was abnormal approach of government to processes.

Speaking about Azerbaijani businessman, UK citizen, founder and owner of Flexi Communications private PR agency Vugar Khalilov’s investigation process Akun noted that he was uninformed about Khalilov’s activity in Kyrgyzstan: “One of my close friends told me about his arrest. It was determined during investigation that his barrister had also been detained and isolated for 48 hours. I was engaged in this issue seriously and sent a letter to several heads of states”.

Moreover, Ombudsman confirmed infringement of Khalilov’s rights during investigation: “Vugar Khalilov was arrested on April 12 in Bishkek. And then groundless accusations were made against him. Groundlessness of these accusations was confirmed during the trial as well. Currently, there is not any problem related to him”.

Akun said that Khalilov proved himself right as a result of efforts of the Kyrgyz Ombudsman’s Office and human rights defenders: “Law-enforcement bodies refuse to return Khalilov’s passport, and that is why we have addressed to related organizations in connection with it. Probably, this issue will also be solved soon.”
