APA reports that judge Elshan Gurbanov presided over the hearing. The court sustained the claim of Lala Shovkat. According to the court’s decision, the Olke newspaper is to publish an article headlined “We apologize to Lala Shovkat” on the first page and pay AZN 4,000.

Editor-in-chief of the Olke newspaper Khazar Teyyublu told APA that the newspaper was not going to fulfill the court’s decision.
“The newspaper will file an appeal soon. If Azerbaijani courts upheld the decision of the court of first instance, we will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights,” he said.

Lala Shovkat raised a claim saying that her honor and dignity had been insulted in the article “A spy under the nickname Madam” published in the Olke newspaper. Lala Shovkat wanted the court to fine the newspaper of AZN 100,000.
