Court sustains Lala Shovkatâ€™s claim against Olke newspaper

APA reports that judge Elshan Gurbanov presided over the hearing. The court sustained the claim of Lala Shovkat. According to the courtâ€™s decision, the Olke newspaper is to publish an article headlined â€œWe apologize to Lala Shovkatâ€ on the first page and pay AZN 4,000.

Editor-in-chief of the Olke newspaper Khazar Teyyublu told APA that the newspaper was not going to fulfill the courtâ€™s decision.
â€œThe newspaper will file an appeal soon. If Azerbaijani courts upheld the decision of the court of first instance, we will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights,â€ he said.

Lala Shovkat raised a claim saying that her honor and dignity had been insulted in the article â€œA spy under the nickname Madamâ€ published in the Olke newspaper. Lala Shovkat wanted the court to fine the newspaper of AZN 100,000.
