Azerbaijani citizen fought against coalition forces in Afghanistan says he repents for his action

On Thursday, the Court of Grave Crimes began court survey on the criminal case of the Azerbaijani citizen Vugar Isayev, who fought against the NATO and coalition forces in Afghanistan. According to APA, during the process presided by Judge Javid Huseynov, public prosecutor Ehtiram Bakhshaliyev declared the text of incitement.

According to the indictment, Vugar Isayev, 34 led by radical religious views traveled to Pakistan via the territory of Iran in 2008. Convicted Shakir Khanbutov helped him in this.

Isayev passed the Pakistani-Afghan border. He bought Kalashnikov gun and joined Azerbaijani citizens Vusal Gasimov’s group fought for Taliban. In September 2008 he sold his gun and arrived in Pakistan where he was detained for breaching the passport regime and extradited to Azerbaijan in January 2009.

Isayev is facing with charges under the article 12.1 (crimes outside the country) and 279.1 (establishing illegal armed groups supplying them with arms, ammunitions, explosives, technical equipments) of the Criminal Code. He admitted guilt and said he participated in the military operations and then repented for his action.

Then the court heard witnesses’ testimony.

Azerbaijani citizens fought in Afghanistan for the illegal armed formations – Shakir Khanbutov, Araz Kangarli, Telman Isayev, Tural Sultanov, Jahangir Bagirov, Eyyub Zeynalov, Seymur Ahadov, Emil Mirzayev, Ceyhun Sadigov, Shahin Mukhtarov, Kabir Velibeyov, Rovshan Pashayev and Vugar Khalilov were sentenced to different terms of imprisonment.
