Senate Foreign Relations Committee holds nomination hearings on U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan

U.S Ambassador Nominee noted that former President Haydar Aliyev was one of the first world leaders, who proposed the assistance to the war against terror after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States

American diplomat said that the cooperation continues up to date and Azerbaijani peacemakers serve shoulder to shoulder in Kosovo and Afghanistan together with American soldiers.

R. Cekuta expressed that diplomatic relations between the United States and Azerbaijan will develop on three main principles- Security, Energy and Democracy. He stressed that cooperation with steady and prosperous Azerbaijan is not only important for the United States and allies, but also for the whole region.

According to U.S. diplomat, Azerbaijan’s support to the diversification of routes of the energy projects is very important to pursue an independent foreign policy.

U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Nominee Richard Mills also addressed at the hearings. Different aspects of the United States’ cooperation with the region were discussed at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee
