Bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed at the meetings,” head of Iran's parliamentary delegation, member of the committee on National Security and Foreign Policy of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) of Iran Javad Jahangirzade said at the press conference in Azerbaijan.
He said that Iran has broad and deep historical and cultural relations with Azerbaijan: “The expansion and deepening of relations between the two parliamentary friendship groups were also discussed. Members of Azerbaijan friendship group in the Iranian parliament are experienced politicians and four of them are chairmen of the commission. The friendship groups can effectively solve problems in the region by deepening the relations."
Jahangirzade added that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was also discussed at the meeting: “Iran is sensitive in this issue. Iran considers that any external interference in the solution of regional problems is unacceptable. Iran condemns the atrocities committed in the region. The borders of the country should be respected by neighboring countries. When the OSCE Minsk Group was established, Iran said that the composition of this group is not useful to resolve the conflict. Iran is ready to mediate in the resolution of the conflict anyway. We want our region to be a safe, peaceful and stable place.”
Iranian MP added that they also touched on Khojaly genocide at the meetings in Baku: “It was decided for the two countries' friendship groups to submit a joint letter to Iran's parliament on the martyrs. Iran has suffered a lot of loses to protect its independence. We shared your feelings while visiting Alley of Martyrs.”
