Today, monuments of all religions and nationalities are preserved in Azerbaijan, their restoration and reconstruction is in the spotlight of the state,” said President Ilham Aliyev addressing the 3rd Baku International Humanitarian Forum, APA reports.
The President said that multiculturalism is a model of life in Azerbaijan: “There is no alternative to multiculturalism in the 21st century. Sometimes, we hear some opinions that multiculturalism has no future. I consider we must demonstrate a positive experience to the world in this matter. To my mind, Baku’s hosting the Humanitarian Forum is a result of this positive experience.”
Aliyev said the Internet is free and 70% of the population is Internet users: “So, development of free media is a main condition. Today, people are getting information from the Internet. Unfortunately, offensive news is in the foreground in the world and Azerbaijani media. There is a free media in Azerbaijan. Any impact on the media is out of question.”
The Head of State noted that the world policy is experiencing a crisis of confidence, states trust each other less: “International cooperation can’t be achieved without trust. Mutual cooperation should be established basing on sincerity and confidence.”
Following the President’s speech, the appeals of Russian President Vladimir Putin, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Director General of the UNESCO Ms. Irina Bokova were read.
