Berlin hosts forum on discussion of Azerbaijanâ€™s economic development over last 10 years

Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany has hosted event “The prospects for economic policy: Opportunities and challenges" organized jointly with German ruling party the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and "Business Council".

Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany told APA that about 70 small and medium German entrepreneurs and representatives of economic state agencies attended the event.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Parviz Shahbazov spoke about the Azerbaijan-Germany relations. The Ambassador noted that the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 36% compared to the first half of 2013 and Azerbaijan-Germany trade constitutes 80% of the country’s trade turnover with the South Caucasus.

Chairman of "Economic Council of federal state of Berlin and Brandenburg" Nikolaus Breuel expressed his satisfaction that Azerbaijan is Germany's most important partner in the South Caucasus. Touching on the democratic development of Azerbaijan, he said that the death penalty was eliminated in this country long ago, human rights are enshrined in the Constitution and the transformation process is being implemented successfully.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of German-Azerbaijan Forum Hanns-Ebert Schleyer stated that Azerbaijan is the most rapidly integrating country into Europe in the South Caucasus and Central Asia. He said that large-scale infrastructure projects and active economic diversification are being implemented in Azerbaijan and it is an attractive factor for German medium entrepreneurs to invest in the country.

Repressentative of AZPROMO in Germany Ibrahim Ahmadov made a presentation on business opportunities in the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan.
