Moscow. Farid Akberov – APA. “Azerbaijan is a sovereign country. Of course, there are several countries intending to put pressure on Azerbaijan in different ways. I can say certainly that all of these don’t affect Azerbaijan’s policy. Azerbaijan is developing good relations with its neighbors thanks to the foreign and domestic policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev”.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Polad Bulbuloghlu said this at the press conference held at ITAR TASS information agency on the prospects of developing Azerbaijan-Russia trade ties on the background of the US and EU sanctions.

The ambassador said Azerbaijan and Russia are strategic partners.

“Russia is Azerbaijan’s northern neighbor. Azerbaijani-Russian relations have historical roots. The economic and trade relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are developing. Mutual visits are often made by officials of both countries. The humanitarian, economic and cultural ties are developing every day. Azerbaijan and Russia implement 140 mutual flights every week. In summer, 9 flights are performed between Baku and Moscow and 7 flights in winter,” he said.

Responding to journalists’ questions, the ambassador touched upon what is happening in Ukraine.

“The developments in Ukraine are very bad moment in the life of those who were born during the Soviet period. Ukraine is facing a real civil war. Of course, Azerbaijan recognizes and supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We don’t want the world order created after the Second World War to be broken down. Unfortunately, this order was broken down over the last 20 years. First, Kosovo and then others… Azerbaijan wishes the Ukrainian crisis to be settled by peaceful means. As you know, Azerbaijan has been facing the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for more than 20 years. Today, Azerbaijan has become a very strong country from a military point of view. However we want a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Therefore, we would like the Ukrainian crisis to be resolved through political negotiations”, the ambassador said.

He also added: “Azerbaijan has been conducting negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for over 20 years. We are making efforts together with the OSCE Minsk Group to avoid war and bloodshed and prevent the involvement of the neighboring states in this conflict, because the results can be disastrous for all parties”.
