Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. The Azerbaijani side is conducting negotiations with the Russian side to get a meeting with Orkhan Zeynalov detained over murder charges, Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev said at the briefing, APA reports. He confirmed that Azerbaijan had sent a note to Russia in this regard.
The note says that a rude behavior against an imprisoned person and his introduction as a criminal by the media outlets are contrary to the presumption of innocence. Abdullayev stressed the importance of finding a legal basis in this case and recalled that the Consular convention between the two countries entered into force in 1998: “Azerbaijan will provide all necessary support to its citizens. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia has been appropriately instructed in this regard. The Azerbaijani Embassy has also offered condolences to the family of the deceased Egor Sherbakov. A request has been sent to meet the detainee and negotiations are underway with the Russian side.”
Abdullayev stated that it is unacceptable to turn any dispute into an ethnic conflict. He added that the Azerbaijani Embassy is also following the investigation into the murder of Azerbaijani Ruslan Garakhanli in Russia.
