On February 25, 2026, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Azerbaijan, Abdinur Dahir Fidow, the Ministry told APA.
The ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Bayramov. The minister congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission. Confidence was expressed that Somalia’s first resident ambassador to Azerbaijan would spare no effort in further developing bilateral relations.
The meeting included discussions on the current state and prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia.
It was noted with satisfaction that contacts between the two countries have intensified in recent years, with an increase in mutual visits. The Somali president’s visit to Azerbaijan in February last year, the subsequent visit of an Azerbaijani government delegation to Somalia, the first political consultations between the foreign ministries within that framework, as well as the Somali foreign minister’s visit to Azerbaijan in June, were recalled with satisfaction.
The sides emphasized the importance of utilizing the existing potential to further deepen cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, agricultural, energy, and other fields.
The importance of cooperation within multilateral international and regional platforms, particularly the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, was also highlighted. In this context, Somalia’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2025–2026 was described as commendable.
Azerbaijan once again reiterated its full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia within its internationally recognized borders.
The meeting also included a detailed exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
