Baku. Anakhanim Hidayatova – APA. The foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Lithuania have today held political consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani MFA told APA that deputy minister Khalaf Khalafov expressed his confidence that the Lithuanian delegation’s visit would contribute to the relations between the two countries. Noting integration into European institutions a priority for Azerbaijan, Khalafov said that Azerbaijan was an important country for Lithuania, including the European Union and reliable partner in the spheres of security and energy sphere.
Khalafov also gave detailed information about the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and underlined the importance of concrete position of the European Union on this. He also said that the development and long-term stability in the region would be impossible without the settlement of the conflict.
Head of Eastern Neighborhood Policy Department at Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Edminas Bagdonas noted that he would chair the European Union from 2013. He said that his country will cooperate closely with the Eastern Partnership member countries, including Azerbaijan.
