Azerbaijan should actively participate in the reconstruction and recovery work in Syria, as Syria is not such a distant region for us, Member of Parliament, Hikmat Babaoghlu said at the first meeting of the Milli Majlis's spring session, APA reports.
He stated that Syria is a moral homeland for us: "I think one of Azerbaijan's priorities was to define new ideas regarding foreign policy in the East. The President of Azerbaijan noted that we must closely participate in the reconstruction of Syria together with our brotherly Türkiye. Azerbaijan's educational and public institutions should specially focus on this issue. Because Syria is not a distant geography for us. If in the 14th century, Nasimi was going to Aleppo, it means that the reason for Nasimi's journey to Aleppo was that Aleppo was a continuation of Azerbaijan's ethno-cultural and religious geography. Today, if Nasimi's grave is still in Aleppo, it means that the place where his grave is located is a moral homeland for us. Therefore, I believe that new perspectives have emerged for Azerbaijan's relations with Syria and the Middle East."
