The IRGC Navy said two oil tankers struck mines and caught fire in and near the Strait of Hormuz after attempting to travel through unauthorized shipping routes, Iran International reports.
In a statement Saturday, the Revolutionary Guards said one tanker was in the eastern part of the strait and the other inside the waterway. It accused both vessels of repeatedly violating Iranian shipping regulations and switching off their navigation and positioning systems.
The IRGC warned that vessels cooperating with the US military or disregarding Iran's restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz would risk striking mines if they entered prohibited areas. The statement provided no information about the vessels' identities, their crews or possible casualties.
