Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed strategic cooperation during a three-hour meeting at the Kremlin on Thursday, November 5, according to new details of the talks, Iran International reports.
Iran's ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, told state television Saturday that the meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere and that Rezaei had delivered a message from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei covering US and Israeli attacks on Iran, Tehran's seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear cooperation.
Jalali also outlined plans for Russian natural gas supplies to Iran, including a short-term gas swap arrangement through Azerbaijan and a longer-term pipeline project. Under the proposed swap, Russia would supply northern Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijan would deliver gas to Iran from its south.
Jalali said the proposed pipeline would have an annual capacity of 110 billion cubic meters, beginning with 55 billion cubic meters in the first phase, and could be built within two to three years.
