We hope that visits between Tehran and Baku will help improve relations between the two countries, Esmail Bagai, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said while commenting on the meetings between Azerbaijani and Iranian officials, APA reports.
"These bilateral visits took place after the recent visit of the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (ed. Ali Akbar Ahmadian) to Baku. During the said visit, there were favorable meetings, strengthening relations between the officials of the two countries and some media misunderstandings were discussed. We hope that these visits will be an important beginning for better and mutual understanding regarding common concerns and improvement of relations between the two countries," the spokesman emphasized.
The diplomat also noted that the security of the Caucasus region, including Azerbaijan and Armenia, is important for Iran: "Iran has good relations with both countries and diplomatic visits are increasing. Iran is ready for any support to strengthen security and stability in the South Caucasus."
Note that Secretary of Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Akbar Ahmadian arrived in Azerbaijan and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received him on January 8.
