“We are holding discussions with Azerbaijan on launching a feasibility study for the railway project in Nakhchivan,” European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said during the panel discussion titled “Open corridor policy? Deepening Trans-Caspian cooperation” held as part of the Munich Security Conference, APA reports.
“We are currently compiling a list of projects with Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, and specific projects will determine the priorities. We are now discussing with Azerbaijan the launch of a feasibility study for the Nakhchivan railway project, which is of great interest to us together with international financial institutions. Whatever we do there will lay the foundation for private investors to come. These are massive projects. I still do not know how exactly we will implement them, but of course, I trust you. At the same time, this is something new for us to some extent; we are pushing each other forward, and that is positive.
Decision-making processes in the European Union are sometimes not so easy, as the EU has 27 member states. But in this period, we see that, for example, cooperation regarding Nakhchivan could be a real game changer in this area. You are also aware of our discussions with Türkiye,” Marta Kos noted.
