"The meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, France, Armenia, and the European Council held in Prague on October 6 is remembered as the next diplomatic success of Azerbaijan and points serving to the beginning of a new era in the South Caucasus. Unfortunately, some forces are taking initiatives that serve to slow down the process and increase tension in the region," Soltan Mammadov, the head of the Azerbaijani-French inter-parliamentary Relations Working Group, said this at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.
Soltan Mammadov reminded that France has never expressed a specific attitude regarding the numerous crimes committed against the Azerbaijani people: "France has not expressed a position regarding the fact that more than 250 Azerbaijani citizens were killed or injured, about 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing, and hundreds of our compatriots were killed and buried in mass graves as a result of the explosion of mines planted by Armenia. Of course, there are politicians in France who correctly assess the strategic importance of Azerbaijan for Europe, who have an objective view of the processes taking place in the region, and who act as supporters of peace and stability in the South Caucasus. They are well aware that a unique opportunity has arisen for the beginning of an era of cooperation, stability, and prosperity in our region. We have opened a new page in the history of the region. Therefore, on behalf of the Azerbaijani-French Inter-parliamentary Working Group, we appeal to French parliamentarians and politicians to refrain from initiatives that serve to aggravate the situation in the South Caucasus at such a historical stage."
