"During his visit, Mr Vinnikov engaged in productive discussions with the Assistant to the President Mr Hikmat Hajiyev," Embassy of Sweden in Azerbaijan issued a statement, APA reports.
The statement said that this week, the Head of NATO Liaison Office in Tbilisi Alexander Vinnikov was back in Baku to continue discussions on the further development of NATO-Azerbaijan relations, as well as on regional security issues of common interest. Mr Vinnikov was accompanied by the NATO Military Liaison Officer, Colonel Berat Telli.
Mr Vinnikov also delivered a keynote address on the NATO-Azerbaijan partnership to an international conference on NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme and its contribution to defence and security sector reform. The delegation also held useful meetings with local think tanks, NATO Ambassadors, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan.
The visit was organized with the support of the Embassies of Slovakia and Sweden in Baku acting as NATO Contact Point Embassies in Azerbaijan for 2025-2026.
Azerbaijan’s relations with NATO started in 1992, when Azerbaijan joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council. Bilateral cooperation began when Azerbaijan joined the Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme in 1994. Thanks to regular participation in PfP activities, Azerbaijan has been able to contribute actively to Euro-Atlantic security, including by supporting NATO-led peace-support operations.
