We are inviting all our international partners to support our peace agenda on the ground, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said in a joint interview with Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, to Euronews in Doha, APA reports.
“We had a good chance to meet in Brussels with the support and facilitation of our friends from the European Union. Since that time, upon the instruction of our leaders had a concrete agenda on how we can advance the peace and also how we can put aside the disagreements that we had together. Azerbaijan has demonstrated goodwill and taken the initiative in this matter. We have been discussing with our Armenian colleagues and through other channels ways to advance peace. Our strategy is not to turn the South Caucasus into an arena of competition or a confrontation, but to transform it into a space of cooperation, engagement, and partnership. The Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process is, in the context of global conflicts, at least one success story. A chapter of conflict is coming to an end. We call on all our international partners, including global powers, to support this peace process. We hope that an irreversible peace will be achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Hikmat Hajiyev said.
Armen Grigoryan emphasized that they are trying to “build a wall of trust” with Azerbaijan: “In all conflicts, the parties do not trust each other. But we have made progress in this direction. As a famous song says, this is, in a positive sense, a new brick in the wall. We have advanced toward this goal and tried to build this wall of trust.”
Grigoryan added that the implementation of regional economic projects will increase interdependence among countries, strengthen peace, and create economic benefits for the peoples of both countries: “We are moving in this direction, and the fact that Hikmat Hajiyev and I are sitting side by side here in your studio in Doha is proof of that.”
