He did not rule out that new co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan will be appointed in today’s meeting of PACE Monitoring Committee.
“I can not say the names of candidates yet, but I regard that the main thing is to continue works. I hope that we will visit Azerbaijan in early 2008. As to the appointment of rapporteur, I will try to be neutral in this issue. I regard that it would better if Azerbaijan’s position is neutral in this issue,†he said.
Mr. Herkel said that media situation in Azerbaijan was not satisfactory.
“The first information we got from Baku was Eynulla Fatullayev’s imprisonment, after our report on Azerbaijan was read in spring session of PACE. International organizations are anxious about media situation in Azerbaijan. Imprisonment of journalists badly influence on the image of the country,†he said. /APA/
