66th session of UN General Assembly starts today

Baku. Viktoria Dementyeva – APA. The 65th session of the UN General Assembly has ended in New York, APA reports. President of the General Assembly, former president of Switzerland Joseph Deiss underlined the plenary meeting on the solution of the crisis in Haiti, summit on the Millennium Development Goals, suspension of Libya from the United Nations Human Rights Council, South Sudan’s admission to the UN.

More than 160 issues were discussed during the 65th session of the UN General Assembly. Among them was the establishment of peace and stability, struggle against terrorism, protection of human rights and environment, social and economic issues. The participants of the session adopted more than 300 resolutions.

The 66th session of the UN General Assembly will open in New York today. Diplomat from Qatar Nassir Abdelaziz Al-Nasser has been elected as chairman of the session. Common political discussions will be held during the new session on September 21-27. The agenda of the session also includes “The situation in the occupied Azerbaijani territories” and “Protracted conflicts in GUAM and their influence on the peace, security and development in the world”. Both issues will be discussed on December 12.
