OSCE Office in Baku issues statement concerning convictions of Public Chamber members for April 2 action

Baku – APA. The OSCE Office in Baku issued a statement concerning the ending of court proceeding on the case of a group of Public Chamber members detained during the unauthorized action on April 2, 2011, APA reports. “The OSCE Office in Baku is concerned about convictions of political activists Babek Hasanov, Zulfugar Eyvazov, Elshan Hasanov, Arif Alishli, Elnur Israfilov and Sahib Karimov in connection with their participation in the 2 April demonstration”, the statement reads.

“The Office has monitored the court case and we have concerns about the fairness of the court proceedings. We hope for further comprehensive review by the Court of Appeal, and express our willingness to continue working with the Government to support judicial reforms and the full exercise of fundamental rights and freedoms, including freedom of assembly”, the OSCE Office said in its statement.
