Oath-taking ceremony of 62 new volunteers of US Peace Corps held in Sumgayit - <font color=red>PHOTO</font>

Baku. Viktoriya Dementyeva - APA. Oath-taking ceremony of 62 new volunteers of American Peace Corps has been held today in Sumgayit city, APA reports. After the ceremony, the volunteers will start two-year activity in Azerbaijan. They will work as community development employees, engage in different projects, as well as teach English language in 28 Azerbaijani regions. The event was organized by Adam Sterling, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy. Sterling reminded that they represent an important part in the history of Peace Corps in Azerbaijan. He called volunteers to share values and practices of America. Reminding rich culture of Azerbaijan, Sterling said that practice of the Peace Corps was important both for them and for Azerbaijanis.

Program Director of Peace Corps Meredith Dalton thanked all partners, as well as Sumgayit and Absheron Executive Powers, Sumgayit City Municipality, families supporting the volunteers.

Note that, the last group consisting of volunteers arrived in Azerbaijan in September of this year.

The Peace Corps is a state organization of the US. The organization was founded in 1961 under the order of President John Kennedy. 388 Peace Corps Volunteers attended this program in Azerbaijan started to function in 2003.
