OSCE Chairman-in-Office: â€œThe state of protracted conflicts in the OSCE space affords ground for careful optimismâ€

Astana. Victoria Dementieva â€“ APA. â€œThe OSCE Summit today is a sign of revival of the organization. We are starting to establish united and indivisible security spaceâ€, said President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in his speech at the opening ceremony of the OSCE Summit in Astana, Kazakhstanâ€™s capital, on December 1, APA correspondent reports. Nazarbayev called on the participant countries to adopt Declaration of Nuclear-Free World proposed by Kazakhstan. To increase effectiveness of the organization, he made a number of proposals, particularly to focus much attention on the prevention of local conflicts and to establish the OSCE Security Institute in Astana for this goal.

OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev said the state of protracted conflicts in the OSCE space afforded ground for careful optimism and he noted that one of the organizationâ€™s main problems is to resolve the conflicts.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon mentioned the OSCEâ€™s role in the solution to the conflicts and said the organization could rely on the UNâ€™s support on this issue. He considers that it needs to involve more young people and women in the process of solution to the conflicts.

President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Petros Efthymiou also emphasized the importance of the solution to protracted conflicts, as well as prevention of human rights and freedoms violation and climate changes.

OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut pointed out the importance of the OSCEâ€™s role as a dialogue forum and bridge between the countries. He called to adopt final document of the summit and said it would bring new breath to the organization and provide it with necessary mechanisms for the activity, and would create basis for intensifying work toward the solution to the conflicts and strengthen combating transnational crime, economic and environmental problems.
