Italian ambassador to Azerbaijan: â€œNATO cooperation is useful for Azerbaijanâ€

He said NATO cooperation was useful for Azerbaijan. He positively valued the policy of Azerbaijan in this direction. â€œAzerbaijan takes the path of integration into Europe, but it has good relationship with Russia too. Your country is trying to keep balance between the integration into NATO and relationship with Russiaâ€.

The ambassador said the military alliance was founded against USSR, today Russia is not a NATO member, but it has partnership with the alliance. â€œThere is a threat from the terrorist organizations, but not from the states or ideologies. Therefore the organization is necessary today and it has representation in Afghanistan, Somalia and other countries. But NATO is not only a military alliance. It is a society which unites common values. For example, the organization organizes humanitarian assistance during the natural disastersâ€.

Head of the NATO Cooperation Institute Farrukh Mammadov reminded about the new strategic concept of the alliance adopted in Lisbon on November 19-20. â€œThe new strategic concept gives special importance to the cooperation with Azerbaijan. This cooperation will be deepened in the future and Azerbaijan will also be NATOâ€™s full memberâ€, said Mammadov.

â€œAmbassadorâ€™s Hourâ€ is a joint project of the NATO Cooperation Institute and Western University. It aims to educate the community about the goals of integration into Euro-Atlantic space.
