NATO announces that it is open for new members

Baku - APA. New strategic concept adopted during the NATO summit aims to set the allianceâ€™s activity more efficiently from now on, APAâ€™s Europe bureau correspondent reports from Lisbon. According to principal on extending in this document, though serious problems any country will have a chance to become member of NATO. The document reads that the alliance is open for all democratic countries of Europe. Moreover, special preparation works will be carried out soon in direction of Georgian and Ukrainian membership into the alliance. The organization is intending to cooperate with these two countries more closely and continue this cooperation. New concept says that this process will be developed in Georgia-Ukraine and Ukraine-NATO committee format. The organization once more expresses that the cooperation with these countries is realized on the basis of decisions passed in Bucharest summit of NATO in 2008. For the purpose of discussion of these issues, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili is also attending NATO summit in Lisbon. Yesterday he met with US President Barack Obama.
