James Appathurai: One of the main tasks of NATO is to protect Europe and its people from possible ballistic attacks

Touching on the main points of the NATO summit James Appathurai outlined the details of the new strategic concept that will be adopted during the summit. He said this document is the main program of NATO for the next decade.
â€œThe document aims to set the allianceâ€™s activity more efficiently and our aim is to work together with other partners. The main issue is of course to protect Europe and its people from the possible ballistic attack. It is very important to cooperate with Russia in the field of possible attacks. We would like Russia to cooperate with us in this field,â€ he said.

The new concept will mainly determine goals of the organization, possible threats and ways of protection from them in the coming decade. Moreover, this document covers the relations between NATO and Russia. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will arrive in Lisbon tomorrow to attend the summit. The main issue that was discussed much before the summit and caused discontent between NATO and Russia, NATO and Turkey is the organizationâ€™s intention to deploy new missile defense systems in Europe.
