NATO summit starts in Lisbon

Lisbon. Fuad Gulubeyli â€“ APA. Two-day summit of NATO has started in the capital of Portugal. APAâ€™s Europe bureau correspondent reports from Lisbon that heads of states and governments of 28 NATO members, including the countries participating in the Partnership for Peace program are arriving in Portugal. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has also left for Lisbon to attend the summit. The heads of the NATO member states and partner states will hold a number of meetings within the framework of the summit.

A number of important decisions will be passed during the Lisbon summit. Therefore, Lisbon summit can be called a historical summit after the Istanbul summit held in 1999. Heads of NATO member states will adopt new strategic concept of the alliance. Afghanistan President will also attend the summit. Security in Afghanistan, transference of the process by 2014 to the Afghan national forces will be discussed during the summit. The main theme of discussion is the deployment of NATOâ€™s antiballistic missiles in Eastern Europe and Turkey. Some structural changes and reduction of military structure will be possible made inside the organization.
