Presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran declare they recognize sovereign rights of littoral states with respect to the Caspian Sea and its resources

Baku – APA. Presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran confirmed their intention in the Joint Declaration adopted at the third summit of the heads of the Caspian states in Baku to continue work on the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti. The Joint Declaration says:
“The sides declare that they recognize the sovereign rights of littoral states with respect to the Caspian Sea and its resources. They confirm their intention to complete work on the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. This Convention will be the basic document that will regulate the activity of the littoral states in the Caspian Sea.”

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at the briefing on the outcomes of the summit that it is possible to complete the work on the Convention within a year.
